Sharron Lucas was the singer for the Dead Predators, and a world class punk metal goddess. With the surviving members, Dave Malbeck, Jerry Robertson, and Gineane Summers, she formed the band as a joke as teenagers. By the time they were old enough to enter the clubs they came up in, they were touring arenas, coliseums, and stadiums around the world. They produced seven studio albums, and every single one was better than the last. The Dee Pees were a generational talent.
But after seventeen years, Sharron Lucas walked away from an empire, without word or warning. She dismantled her entire identity, and lived out her days smiling quietly behind a cliche midwestern facade, doing morning shows and political jingles with Burt Wilson, a middling country music hack who leveraged Lucas's midlife conversion as a testimony to his vacant way of life. But Burt just wanted to be a star.
And then Sharron Lucas died.
Another dead celebrity. Another discredited idol.
Her old friends gather at St. Olga's cathedral for the funeral. The band is scheduled to perform a reunion show for charity, in the park at nightfall. Fans have swarmed the city, and with them come the protesters, the parasites, the propagandists, and the paparazzi. The great forces of the universe have aligned to prevent the Dead Predators from taking that stage, and all any of us really want is an answer.
Did Sharron Lucas really kill herself?
